Jelly Babies Strategy – Little and Often

The Jelly Babies Strategy for race nutrition focuses on little and often consumption of carbohydrate throughout the race. It varies from the traditional strategy in timings as well as nutrition type. Race nutrition is consumed in smaller quantities but more frequently. Some runners find it easier to follow, digest and practice.

Traditionally athletes have eaten jelly babies for race nutrition as they are high in carbohydrate and easy to consume. Haribo or Percy Pigs are also race favourites.

Specially formulated, small chewable cubes of carbohydrates for athletes are now available. One of the most well-known brands are Shot Bloks.

One shot block = 8g carbohydrate

Two jelly babies = approx. 8g carbohydrate

One percy pig = approx. 7g carbohydrate
